Three persons have lost their lives in in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Saturday evening as fleeing gunmen shot them dead.
In their bid to escape, the gunmen went on a shooting spreed and injured many in the process.
A personal assistant of a member of the State House of Assembly whom they robbed of an undisclosed amount of money was also shot by the criminals.

The PA was allegedly robbed of an undisclosed amount of money which he withdrew for his boss from an undisclosed bank in the state capital.
According to Punch, the gunmen killed a tricycle operator at school road by MCC Junction, a passerby at Tetlow road and another person at a street junction.
However, they were unable to kill a policeman who was on duty nearby.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to Punch, the criminals followed the lawmaker’s aide, double crossed him and robbed him of the huge amount of money.
The money was suspected to be in a foreign currency.
“The armed robbers numbering four doubled crossed the lawmaker’s personal Assistant who was driving a white Hilux. They went straight to where a bag that was apparently containing the money was. The aide tried to resist them, but they shot him in his hand,” the eyewitnesses said.
According to him, the fleeing gunmen, while escaping, shot continuously and killed one tricycle operator instantly and injured others.

Meanwhile, Andrew Enwerem, the Police spokesperson in the state, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
He however said he was yet to receive the full details.
Meanwhile, a 20 year old boy, Ibrahim Aliyu Babatunde, confessed that he arranged for his father’s abduction at gunpoint at the Oyo state Police Command on Saturday.
The 20-year old Ibrahim Aliyu Babatunde was paraded alongside three other members of his gang by police at the command headquarters in Eleyeile, Ibadan.
Names of the other kidnap gang were given as – Babuga Salihu (20), Aura Sands (20), and Amuda Yusufu (19).
